An article I just read from the Washington Post said that Pastor Terry Jones was never going to burn the Qurans on this 9th anniversary of 9/11. Good call on his part, but what was all the hype about? Why was it ever brought up if he didn't plan on burning the Islamic holy book? I feel that the media overpublicized this man and his talk of burning the Quran. The article said that he went to the "Today Show" and said he wasn't going to burn the books "not today, not ever". Maybe the sentiment of the day changed his mind?? Either way, I'm very glad he changed his mind. I just feel that Terry Jones wanted publicizing for himself and his church and that's what he got. I hope that people would think about what they're doing before they try to interrupt such a day as 9/11.

I definitely think it was all for attention and as you pointed out…it was attention he got! President Obama, the NY Imam, and even Angelina Jolie all gave this radical figure/internet sensation their attention. This is a very dangerous trend. We do not want every nut job being able to get on Facebook and start a worldwide crisis that demands both the attention and time of our most valuable individuals! This is one of the downsides to the Internet and modern technology, and I just hope we can figure out a way to keep it from becoming a real problem!
ReplyDeleteEven though the Quran burning was cancelled, the world did not get the message. I feel like after he made his announcement, that he was no longer going through with his plan, the media stopped following the story. The world did not forgive the U.S. for even planning this event. Read the article. I really had to dig to try to find any news on this after 9/11.

This guy is simply trying to cash in on the business opportunities that come along with national press coverage. I don't agree that we should burn the Quran or put this pastor in the limelight. I do, however, have a problem countries such as Saudi Arabia confiscating Bibles at the airport. Bring a quantity of Bibles into the country and expect 70 lashes. Oh yea... they destroy the Bibles they confiscate.
